At the Danville Fall Festival.

P164

Danville does Fall very well. The leaves turn, the air gets crisp, people look happy in their rediscovered sweaters. I arrived late in the day and most of the booth people looked pretty done with it. The picture is of a Danville restaurant's clock tower with the Autumn California sun.

MIKE's DAILY PODCAST effizode 2 for Sunday May 8th, 2011...HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Mother's Day is here
so make that fresh bouquet appear
May 8th and Cinco De Mayo I think
Someone wants mommy to have more offspring
I think tequila companies are making bank
This holiday gets people to go drank
And she'll have a hangover and start to pray
But enough about Mother's day
I wonder if anyone listens to podcasts on Sundays
so enjoy this podcast and keep in mind
your mommy never liked it when you whined

Here's a business proposition: Set up a flower stand on a busy corner today.  If that doesn't work, find out where the next graduation is and stand on a busy corner by a school or on school if you can do it.

I forgot to mention last podcast that my wife and I waited with baited breath last Sunday to find out about our house in Alabama.  We were very relieved to hear it's still standing.

Valentino the Parking Attendant and his assistant Bison Bentley are upset with some unwanted guests in the parking lot of THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH.

Our special guest who was a regular on the show back when we were on the radio from the early 90's to the early 00's looks into my future to give me some great motherly advice!

Listen to the show on Podomatic here at...

Tomorrow we hear from Chely Shoehart and Floyd the Floorman.  Tune in for a laugh, a giggle, a smirk.

This is my first daily podcast
Let's see how long this show will last
My boxer's mad he has to sit through this
he'd rather go outside and find a tree on which to pisition himself next to
I enjoyed doing a half hour show for over 4 months
Sometimes people listened or at least that is my hunch
Now the podcast's shorter and coming to you each day
Now my dog is gnawing on my leg and wants to play
no!  I'm not playing mike's leg is made out of turkey meat!
so enjoy this show rebooted
and enjoy me looking stupid!

Yesterday I made what we affectionately call Georgia's Cheesy Potatoes.  I describe in the podcast.  Delicious!

Benita the Rodeoqueen and the Disgruntled Fiddle Player stop by to critique my homework thus far for community college.

The Brewmaster makes me a type of coffee rootbeer.  Yes, he holds the patent.

We hear from singer/songwriter Irene Pena and the last bit of her interview that I never got a chance to play.  Plus one of her songs!

NO FOOLIN'! HERE'S THE "UNLUCKY" SHOW...EFFIZODE NUMBER 13 OF "THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH!!!"

Hello, my name is Mike Matthews. That bus you hear in the background is my
bulky vehicle choice to get me to this week's half hour effizode of THE LAST
PLACE ON EARTH. We'll find out what strange physical ailment a lot of women
are getting nowadays, we'll find out what horrible poverty has hit your
favorite vacation destination, and we'll tell you what color you should NOT
pick for your car if you do not desire to be a lemming.

All that plus music from Hobo, The Rope River Blues Band, Plumtree, and
Zombie Prom Queen.

This week has been interesting for which you will hear on the show. This is
the 13th effizode of this show. The last show I did got up to sixteen and
only ended because my wife and I moved from Huntsville, Alabama, to Castro
Valley, California. Yes, we literally went from one end of the political
spectrum to the other. You could see the states getting bluer the closer we
got to our new home!

My last show was called "The Messy Desk" which you can still catch some of
the effizodes on http://ping.fm/EBKjm Interesting thing
about podomatic...as soon as you sign up for a free account every dj in the
world tries to get you to "friend" them. There was every DJ, MC, and
mixologist from every dance club sending "friend requests." I left
podomatic and went to podbean to start anew without the crazy fans.
Oh...fans.

So as we rapidly approach Christmas and New Years look back on your year and
survey what you liked and what you'd like to change. Think about what went
incredibly right and what you can do to duplicate it. Don't bother thinking
about what you did wrong, you've probably already spent too much time doing
that.

Oh, quick shout out to my friends Terri and Steve that drove my wife and I
into the city (San Francisco) to check out a monthly 80's dance club. Wow,
dancing to 80's music is so uplifting. My wife is younger and doesn't
remember the 80's so much but she loves dancing to that music. She almost
thinks of it as a more "innocent" way of dancing. We weren't quite grinding
yet in the 80's.

This week's show is a hoot and you can listen to it here...

And you can download the latest show off iTunes. If you're subscribing to
where you could download shows 5 through 10 go to this new site and
subscribe here...

I had to start 11 and the teens in this new itunes location. Thanks for
dealing with the inconvenience. You are too kind.

And good luck with the rest of the shopping you've got on your list. If you
don't have a list, YAYYY! You are already ahead of the rest of us!

I love writing these from my cell!

Don't have the latest internet connected cellphone but I can write this blog through texting on my phone. Enjoy these quick little blogs being written to you from "wherever".

This is similar to my new podcasts which are Mike's PODCAST PICNIC. I am recording video podcast from "wherever" talking to all sorts of interesting folk.

Today's WHAT THE HECK??? Why doesn't everyone podcast and blog? Everyone, from what I can tell, has lots to say. Yeah, people are busy with work, kids, job, pets, etc, but just hit record while all that's going on. That would be hella interesting.

Just hit record.

My First Entry for Mike's One Minute What the Heck

Hello, and welcome to my first blog. I have wanted to do this for soooo long, especially after the events of December 15th.

That was a Monday if you recall. Not the best day of my life. I was driving into work, driving a large over sized truck that's only purpose was to promote a radio station. Driving the roads around the Tennessee Valley is not the easiest task in such a beast, but I learned to manage it over the year that I worked for the company that in mere minutes would let me go. I should have known something was up the way two coworkers who were privy to the upcoming event scurried like cockroaches when the kitchen door opens.

I don't want to dwell on this turn of events, suffice to say that this replayed over and over again. Yes, across the US where the unemployment rate rose from 6 to 8 to 10 percent, but also at this company where soon many more employees were asked to leave. This is the state of radio. You may not listen every day to your "favorite station". You may now find yourself relying more on your ipod since it gives you much more variety than anything over the airwaves. You may have discovered podcasts, much like I did, where normal people talk about normal things--infinitely more interesting than anything heard on the dial!

My first WHAT THE HECK? WHAT THE HECK radio? You were a fantastic artistic medium for so many years. I guess I was in denial about how you really were. Not long ago you began the change of life and became the utterly desperate creature we see today. Desperate because you are clinging to life. No one cares about you. The digital age has passed your staticky carcass by! There is no need for your boring, trite, and uninteresting promotions any more. Good bye!

Thanks for reading my first blog. Other observations are on the way as well as a cartoon character I recently resurrected named "Gnat-Man"; you'll see him in future "effizodes".

Enjoy the weekend!
